ForenScope proudly participated in the AFSA 2024 Conference, held from September 23rd to 28th, 2024, in Kigali, Rwanda. Hosted by the African Forensic Science Academy and co-hosted by the Rwanda Forensic Institute, the event brought together forensic science practitioners and stakeholders from across Africa and around the globe to discuss the growing ecosystem of forensic science on the continent.
Pioneering Technology in Forensic Science
Primary Focus:
ForenScope showcased its cutting-edge imaging solutions, including the SuperSpectral, t-ZOOM Plus DNA, CSI Pro II, and ALS Series, emphasizing their benefits in modern forensic investigations. The presentations highlighted how these devices enable professionals to conduct non-destructive and highly efficient evidence detection across a variety of surfaces.
Key Topics Covered:
- Introduction to the capabilities of SuperSpectral, t-ZOOM Plus DNA, CSI Pro II, and other forensic imaging solutions.
- Demonstrating the detection of bodily fluids, blood, and GSR on diverse surfaces.
- Cost-effective forensic solutions presented during the “Frugal Forensics” workshop led by Prof. Dr. Yanko Kolev.
Interactive Demonstrations and Highlights
Exciting Moments:
One of the most memorable moments of the event was the Frugal Forensics workshop on September 24th, where attendees explored ForenScope devices hands-on. The ability of the devices to detect bodily fluids invisible to the naked eye left participants both surprised and impressed.
Hands-On Demonstrations:
ForenScope offered real-time demonstrations throughout the event, including:
- Detection of body fluids such as semen, sweat, and urine on different fabric samples using the SuperSpectral and t-ZOOM Plus DNA devices.
- GSR and blood detection on various surfaces, showcasing the devices’ versatility.
- A unique passport examination, where the t-ZOOM Plus DNA’s UV and IR lights revealed hidden security features that confirmed authenticity.
Key Features and Benefits for Forensic Professionals
Standout Features:
The t-ZOOM Plus DNA was particularly praised for its ability to detect even the tiniest traces of bodily fluids, such as a single drop of semen on fabric, thanks to its advanced zoom capability.
Benefits for Law Enforcement:
ForenScope devices offer several advantages over traditional methods, including:
- Compact design with built-in lights, filters, and high-tech cameras, reducing the need for external tools.
- Elimination of chemicals such as luminescence for blood detection, significantly reducing costs over time.
- Enhanced ease of use, allowing faster and more efficient forensic investigations.
Looking Ahead
ForenScope’s participation in AFSA 2024 marked a significant step in expanding its presence in Africa’s forensic science community. By introducing its innovative imaging solutions to experts from across the continent, ForenScope is poised to contribute to the development of forensic practices in the region.
We extend our gratitude to the African Forensic Science Academy and the Rwanda Forensic Institute for organizing this impactful event.
Together, we continue to shape the future of forensic science through innovation and collaboration.
