ForenScope Technology Deployed in Death Investigation of Brazilian University Professor

The Scientific Police of Alagoas, Brazil, are working to determine the cause of death of Carlos Alberto de Carvalho Fraga, 38, a professor and coordinator of the Medicine program at the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), Arapiraca Campus. He was found dead on the morning of Monday, February 9, inside his home at Residencial Pedro Tertuliano, in the Massaranduba neighborhood.

The forensic pathologist at the Arapiraca Legal Medicine Institute (IML), Dr. Guilherme Paiva, confirmed that the body showed no signs of physical violence. Biological samples were collected and sent to the Forensic Laboratory for toxicological analysis. The results are expected to be critical in establishing whether any external or clinical factor contributed to the death.

A crime scene investigation team from the Institute of Criminalistics of Agreste conducted the technical examination of the premises. According to forensic expert Isadora Davi, all available resources were employed to collect traces, which will be forwarded to the forensic laboratories of the Institute of Criminalistics in the state capital, with strict adherence to chain of custody protocols.

Among the technologies deployed at the scene was the ForenScope CSI Pro 3, used for the collection of latent fingerprint evidence. The equipment, recently made available in the state of Alagoas, represents a significant advancement in the technical capabilities of local forensic units.
The definitive autopsy report is pending the conclusion of laboratory analyses.
