IGP Advances Crime Scene Investigation with ForenScope Multispectal Imaging Systems

IGP Acquired ForenScope MultiSpectral Systems

We are proud to announce that the Instituto-Geral de Perícias (IGP) of Brazil has expanded its forensic imaging capabilities with the acquisition of two new ForenScope multispectal fingerprint detection systems, purchased on February 10th. IGP has indicated that additional procurement processes are planned to equip further sections and personnel. This investment marks a significant step forward in how crime scene evidence is captured, preserved, and analyzed and we at ForenScope are honored to be at the center of that transformation.A Partnership Built on Proven Results

IGP is no stranger to ForenScope technology. The institute had already been operating one of the systems of ForenScope since 2024. The latest acquisition brings two additional units of the newest generation system, now operating at full 8K resolution, double the capacity of the previous 4K model already in use.

What ForenScope Brings to the Crime Scene

Our multispectal imaging systems are designed to detect latent fingerprint traces that traditional methods often miss. The technology scans surfaces and reveals papilloscopic fragments even when covered by dust or completely invisible to the naked eye, without touching, disturbing, or contaminating the evidence in any way. This is where ForenScope makes a fundamental difference: no powders, no chemical reagents, no toxic gases. The traditional manual approach carries real risks, both to the integrity of the evidence and to the professionals handling it. Our systems eliminate those risks entirely, protecting both the chain of custody and the people working the scene. For IGP’s fingerprint specialist Eduardo Stumvoll, of the Latent Print Development Section (SRL), the impact is immediate and tangible. He recalled cases where fingerprint fragments were lost during the application of traditional developers. With ForenScope, he noted, that risk is drastically reduced and the ability to detect previously invisible traces is significantly expanded.

From Capture to Identification

The workflow doesn’t stop at detection. Images captured by ForenScope systems are transferred directly to IGP’s servers and integrated into AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System), broadening the scope of comparison and identification across papilloscopic databases. Higher resolution means more detail, more detail means stronger matches, and stronger matches mean more cases solved. The 8K resolution of our latest generation system represents not just an upgrade in image quality, but a measurable gain in precision, speed, and investigative confidence.
