Local media outlet WMBF News reported that the Myrtle Beach Police Department (MBPD) became the first agency in the United States to receive the ForenScope 8K and the Contactless Laboratory Fingerprint System.

According to the report, the grant-supported deployment enables investigators to capture fingerprints without physically touching the evidence, using a fully digital workflow designed to reduce the risk of evidence tampering. WMBF also noted the system’s capability to detect additional evidence types, including bodily fluids and gunshot residue, supporting use across a wide range of crime scene scenarios.

MBPD Corporal Chris Starling highlighted the breadth of applications, noting: “You name the crime … it’s hopefully something we can find a way to use it for.” The department stated its crime scene team was still in the learning phase, with plans to deploy the system directly at active scenes as proficiency increases.
