ForenScope Technology Deployed in Brazilian Homicide Investigation

The Criminalistics Institute (ICM) in Maceió, Brazil, utilized with ForenScope 8K Android tablet technology for the first time to help solve a double homicide. Thanks to this new technology, crucial evidence that traditional methods might have easily missed was brought to light directly at the crime scene.

Instant On-Site Detection
The expert forensics team dispatched to the crime scene in the Antares neighborhood used the device to scan walls, floors, furniture, and electronics inside the house. During their detailed sweep, a palm print and multiple latent fingerprints completely invisible to the naked eye were successfully detected and recorded on the walls and window glass.

Major Milestone for the Institute
Reflecting on the impact of its first field deployment, Forensic Expert Gabriel Feitosa praised the device’s performance and summed up the success: “The results were highly satisfactory, and acquiring this equipment represents a major milestone for the Criminalistics Institute.”

Highlighting the direct impact the new system has on the investigative process, Forensic Expert Lincoln Machado added ”With this technology, we have expanded our capacity to detect fingerprints right at the scene. It strengthens our physical evidence and makes a real difference in solving cases, especially when it comes to identifying perpetrators in intentional violent crimes.”

Next Steps in the Investigation
The prints collected at the scene have been forwarded to the ICM laboratories for technical analysis. The resulting data will then be uploaded to the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) and cross-referenced against law enforcement’s civil and criminal databases to help identify the suspects.
